Sea Point promenade and Granger Bay parking area project on the go

From 15 May 2023, the City of Cape Town’s Spatial Planning and
Environment Directorate kicks off its much anticipated 12-month long Sea Point
promenade and Granger Bay parking area project. This project will bring about
new and upgraded walkways, public art, coastal structures, a play park, parking
area, lawn and coastal vegetation areas. The Granger Bay parking area will be
upgraded and will be closed for public use for
the duration of the construction period. Provisions for temporary traffic and
pedestrian accommodation have been made and signage will be placed in affected
areas.
The scheduled work for the Sea Point promenade and Granger Bay parking area project is as follows:
- Upgrading of Granger Bay parking area
- Construction of a rock revetment
- New Fort Road play park
- Additional walkways
- Additional coastal vegetation and lawn planting
- Installation of interpretive signage to give heritage information
- Public art in the Sea Point Library
'The City is working towards a greener Sea Point promenade with two added walkways connecting the promenade to Beach Road and a play park. We cannot wait for you to see the outcomes that will include a public art display inside the Sea Point Library. The upgrade of the Granger Bay parking area will also make way for more parking, with formalised bays demarcated. The Sea Point promenade is an iconic destination and one of the most popular among locals and visitors. We are continuously improving the infrastructure and look forward to seeing more visitors once the project is complete,' said the City's Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Alderman Eddie Andrews.
